Weston-super-Mare Junior Athletic Club is a community club, which helps to assist the development of children and youth, both physically and socially, through sport. The Club is supported by UK Athletics and caters for all abilities taking them up to county standard.
We coach all children from 7 -16 years and now open our doors to Special needs and disabled children and Schools with Special Needs Units within the North Somerset district.
All coaches are UK Athletics qualified Coaches and Children in Athletics qualified coaches with enhanced CRB clearance.
Each class in the junior section has a limit of 10 children per coaching assistant. The exact ratio depends on the range of requirements & disabilities.
All younger children have a coaching assistant who assists the Section Coach with remedial development so that the children can develop the confidence and skills required to continue to enjoy their sport in future years. They also have the opportunity to join the youth sections when going to secondary schools and to enter competitions if they wish.
All coaches and assistants are from the community of Weston-super-Mare and are trained as a minimum Children in athletics Coach’s and ongoing in-house training through lectures and de-briefing sessions from UK Athletics. They commit their personal time free to help children have a chance in life of experiencing things we all take for granted.
Weston-super-Mare Junior Athletics Club offers valuable remedial, and in many cases, communication and social interaction to children who have limited access to exercise. Children with Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Cerebral Palsy, Hemiplegia, Autism and other disabilities have the benefit of individually developing their own special needs in a fun and sporting environment.
As Weston-super-Mare Junior Athletics Club is self funding, parents may be asked to help from time to time to offer a small amount of their time. This could be in the form of groups organising the children's party once a year, helping administrate or from time to time assisting with various projects or events that occur. Parental involvement is of great value to the Club. It enables the main stream of coaches to carry on with the smooth running of club. We are always open to business’ to help us fund this great cause and create a chance for those who may not have the opportunity. If you or your business could help us in any way how ever small we would be extremely appreciative.
